Where has the time gone! All seems to have been quiet and my blog been somewhat neglected over the autumn and winter. A quick potted history of what I’ve been up to over the past few months:-
- Indoor climbing – quite a bit, but not enough and usually at Westway in West London. I’ve realised that real improvement comes with consistency. Before Christmas I was managing to get to the wall three times a week and the improvement, particularly in lead climbing was noticeable. Unfortunately a knee injury has curtailed activities for the past couple of weeks.
- Outdoor climbing – a few weekends down at Portland on the bolted cliffs were complimented by a weekend trad climbing instruction at Wintours Leap, getting to grips with building anchors and placing pro. I’d really like to do more trad climbing – it adds an extra dimension to the climbing and is a more natural fit with my mountaineering aspirations.
- Travelling through Vietnam – a last minute decision led me to book a flight to Saigon for New Year and then spend a couple of weeks exploring and travelling through Vietnam, up to Hanoi and across to Ha Long Bay – a great experience but not nearly long enough to do it justice.
- Scrambling in Wales – just back from a weekend in Snowdonia – minus the snow! The sun was out as we headed up Tryfan and Bristly Ridge and across the Glyders one day and into Cwm Llafar and up Crib Lem to Carnedd Dafydd the next.
I’ll hopefully get chance to post a few words and pictures from Wales and I really ought to write up my fantastic Vietnam trip, least of all before the experience blends into the haze of my memory.
